Thursday Tip: Why Is Car Servicing Important?
Regular car servicing is essential for keeping your car or commercial vehicle healthy and can save you money in the long run. Sticking to the manufacturer’s service schedule can also help protect the future value of your car and your warranty.
Don’t scrimp on car servicing. Here’s why:
- Keeps the engine healthy
During a car service, we check all the vital fluids, lubricants and filters that keep your car running at its best. The most critical is the oil and oil filter. There’s nothing that’s going to ruin your engine more than dirty oil. The oil change will stop clogging and residue build-up so that engine components are free to work as they should do. Next up is the air filter, pollen filter, and the fuel filter or spark plugs, depending on whether your vehicle is diesel or petrol. By changing the oil and filters in the service, you end up with a fresher and better engine that is cleaner, more economical to run, and will last longer.
- Tyre safety
Your tyres are your only contact with the road and are essential for the safe handling and braking performance of your car. During a service, we get your vehicle up on the ramp to check the inside and outside of the tyres. We check for signs of wear, including the tread depth and any bumps or bulges that indicate damage or weak points in the tyre that could result in a dangerous blowout. We check the tyre pressure in all four tyres and adjust it as necessary in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. This is important for safety but also helps your tyres to last longer.
- Protects the car’s value
Full service history. There’s a reason why you will find those three words used frequently in ads to sell used cars! A full service history means that your car has been looked after in accordance with the manufacturer’s service schedule. It will help your car command a higher price when the time comes to sell it on. Your car service provider will stamp your handbook and record the details of work performed. Keep this safe as proof of your full service history.
Well, if your car is a spluttering mess and the dashboard is lit up like Christmas then it’s time to visit us. But we hope that you won’t let it get to that point.
Most vehicle manufacturers recommend that your car or van is serviced once a year or roughly every 20,000 km, whichever comes first. But it can vary depending on the model so check your vehicle handbook to find out the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals.
Most modern cars will have an in-built warning system to let you know when it’s time for your next service. A service light will typically appear on the dashboard to remind you it’s time to book your service soon.
- Don’t let car servicing slip.
- The cheapest car to run is the one you already own.
- An engine that hasn’t been serviced regularly will use more fuel than one that is well-maintained.
- With regular car servicing from a reputable garage, your car or van can run for decades!
- Do stick to the manufacturer’s servicing schedule and get your service book stamped as proof of the work done.
- Don’t ignore warning lights that come on the dash. Come in and let us check it out to avoid bigger problems in the future.

One of the most important aspects of car maintenance, which is often overlooked, is tyre condition and safety. As, and it can’t be stated often enough, the tyres of your car are the ONLY thing that is on your car that connects with the road. So when you add to this that you have no control over the road condition, you must keep your car tyres in the best shape that you can. There is a 5 point plan that, if you follow, will give you the best chance to keep your tyres in good condition and you safe on the road.
The tyres on your vehicle are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road.
Therefore, they play a key role in vehicle safety.
Your car’s electrical system consists of the battery, starter and alternator. If any part of the system is not working as it should that the whole system will not run properly and as such the car is not running efficiently if at all.
